See If It Has Legs

So…if I understand the ‘apple’ scene in Genesis correctly…the serpent originally had legs. In chapter 3 the serpent convinces Eve to eat of the tree “in the middle of the Garden”.

I know, the bible doesn’t say it was an apple…just that it had fruit. (If I ever hear anyone refer to the apple Eve ate I like to say, “No, it was a lemon.”)

So she eats and gives to Adam and he eats and God gets on their case. God dishes out the punishment to Adam and Eve and the serpent. He tells the serpent he will crawl on his belly all the days of his life. So was this something new? Did he have perfectly good legs before?

The other thing…he is just a serpent. “More crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made.” Is this Satan? The Devil? Originally, or should I say, in the beginning, it is just a serpent, possibly with legs. Oh, and he talks.

And why did God make him?
